bearing edge

The conga craftsmen at Gon Bops have scored a big win! The legendary American percussion company just announced that it signed Orestes Vilato to its roster of endorsers.

Originally from Cuba, Vilato’s unique style on timbales is one of the most emulated in Latin music. Credits include a nine year-stint with Santana, and recordings and performances with Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson, Herbie Hancock, Linda Ronstadt, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, McCoy Tyner, Dave Valentin, Israel “Cachao” L√≥pez, Paco De Lucia, and many others. He earned a Grammy nomination for his 2009 solo CD, It's About Time, as well as for the groundbreaking 1995 album Ritmo y Candela, alongside fellow Cuban percussion legends Carlos “Patato” Valdez and José Luis Quintana (a.k.a. Changuito).
