It makes you wonder if any of these folks have ever been to a Chad Smith drum clinic. Let’s just say that the ones I’ve seen haven’t exactly been rated PG-13, but perhaps the Red Hot Chili Peppers bash master has agreed to temper his rhetoric for the young ears at his upcoming concert/clinic at Peters Township High School in McMurray, Pennsylvania.
The school was chosen among hundreds of applicants as the winner of the Chad Smith Percussion In The Schools concert sponsored by the Percussive Marketing Council, which was first announced during the NAMM show last January. The program invited NAMM retail members to nominate a school district, and the winning nomination was submitted by Vincent Nemeth, owner and found of U-Rock Music Center in McMurray.
Nemeth wrote: “Peters Township High School … is an extremely arts oriented school district with a lot of emphasis on the creative talents and development of their students. They have a tremendous instrumental music program under the direction of high school Music Director Milton Barney.”
The celebrity concert will be closed to the public, and will allow all attending students to experience a life-changing dialog with an international artist. The culmination of the day will be a special one-hour “drummers only” hands-on educational drumming session with Chad Smith, attended by all middle school and high school drummers.
