Juan Carlos Mendoza Wins The 24th Annual Drum Off

Just call him Mr. 24.

The 24th annual Guitar Center Drum Off has a grand champion – Juan Carlos Mendoza. A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Mendoza received his B.A. in Music Education in 2004 and is currently pursuing his M.A in Music Education while serving as the Band Director for William C. McGinnis Middle School in his hometown of Perth Amboy, New Jersey. A second-time Drum-Off grand finalist, Mendoza previously made it to the stage in 2008 finishing just shy of the title, proving that there’s something to be said for perseverance.

Mendoza was able to impress an august panel of judges, which included notable drummers Adrian Young of No Doubt, Brooks Wackerman of Bad Religion, and Ray Luzier of Korn, thereby earning a huge prize package that included $25,000 in cash, a custom kit, endorsement deals from major drum, cymbal, drumhead, and stick companies of his choice, a Roland electronic kit, and much more.

Be sure to check out the video of his winning performance below.
