Drummers who have tackled a solo-drumming gig (not to be confused with a drum clinic) are members of a pretty elite club. Off the top of my head, Terry Bozzio comes to mind, and then … well, not many others have attempted to keep a room full of non-drummers entertained with percussive pyrotechnics.
But Keith Carlock doesn’t seem concerned. The Sting/Steely Dan/James Taylor drummer will throw his hat into the ring this Wednesday when he takes the stage at the 55 Bar in New York City to perform a solo set. Carlock will handle the early set, which starts at 7:00 p.m., so be sure to get there early.
None other than jazz guitarist Mike Stern will follow at 10:00 (with Kim Thompson on drums), so why not make a night of it?
