I have to admit, hearing Justin Beiber’s auto-tuned version of “Little Drummer Boy” brought out the humbug in me, but I was blown away by this video of the same song produced by a Canadian kid named Sean Quigley.
The 16-year old high-school junior from Winnipeg has become an Internet sensation after posting his home-produced video on YouTube three weeks ago. It’s not hard to see why it went viral. Quigley is featured thrashing a three-piece kit Travis Barker style through his own arrangement of “Little Drummer Boy,” while wearing shorts in snow-covered woods.
But his involvement went far beyond the drum part. Quigley played all the instruments, staged and shot every scene using a Canon Rebel camera (with his 19-year-old sister’s help), and edited the final video himself. It’s an impressive piece of work.
Quigley’s video has become such a sensation that he caught the eye of Jason McRay of McRay Artist Management, who has already fielded some interest from record labels. Maybe there is a Santa Claus after all.
