New York’s Brooklyn Charter School (BCS) has developed an after-school program just for drummers in grades three through five. The program focuses specifically on percussion studies from an array of musical styles, and is taught by Latin Percussion artist “Cascadu,” or Omigbade Escayg.
BCS after-school percussion curriculum has also offered instruction from other renowned LP artists like Grammy-nominated recording artist/percussionist Wilson “Chembo“ Corniel, as well as author and educator, Victor Rendón.
"In a world where we must compete to focus children’s attention on learning, it is a huge relief to be able to provide a quality experience that draws them in and positively impacts their lives,” Escayg said. “ Here the effect is immediate and the transformation happens right before our eyes."
Students have performed for the Mayor of New York City and the Chancellor of Education. The school’s Brazilian Percussion ensemble has been featured on the popular Fox morning show “Good Morning New York”.
