Memorial For Slain Chicago Drummer Doug Meis Tonight

Three Chicago musicians killed in 2005 by a suicidal driver: (left to right) Michael Dahlquist, Doug Meis, and John Glick.

On July 14, 2005 in Skokie, Illinois, a suicidal woman named Jeanette Sliwinski intentionally rammed her 2000 red Ford Mustang at a speed exceeding 70 miles per hour into a 2001 Honda Civic stopped at a red light. The collision killed the three Chicago-based musicians inside the Civic: Doug Meis, the drummer for Exo and the Dials; John Glick, the guitarist for the Returnables; and Michael Dahlquist, the drummer for Silkworm. Sliwinski was later sentenced to eight years in prison.

Tonight three Chicago-based bands -- Exo, Absentstar, and Regional Standard -- will perform at the Doug Meis Memorial Rock Show held in memory of the former Exo drummer. The concert at Schubas Tavern (3159 N Southport Ave, Chicago, 773-525-2508) begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. All proceeds for the show will go to the Doug Meis Gifted Artists Of Tomorrow Scholarship Fund at the Music Institute of Chicago.
