Seasoned metal drumming journeyman Robbie France died on January 14 at the age of 53. His cause of death remains unknown. France first came to prominence as the drummer for Diamond Head in 1982, during the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, and went on to play with UFO, Wishbone Ash, Alphaville, and Skunk Anansie.
Born in the UK, France’s family moved to Australia when he was 11, where he eventually studied at the National Academy Of Rudimentary Drummers and became a music teacher at the Australian Academy Of Music. He wrote a regular column for the British drumming magazine Rhythm, hosted a radio show after moving to Spain in the late ’90s, and published as novel, Six Degrees South.
