Drummer Meytal Cohen has joined forces with film and video game composer Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill, Shadows of The Damned) on a band project that will include live performances as well as audio and video recordings.
Meytal, who has collaborated with various musicians from prog rocker Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) to rapper Epic Lloyd, and whose drum videos have been viewed nearly 50 million times online, recently recorded several tracks at Sunset Sound studios in Los Angeles with Yamaoka and the band for K.I.D. (Killer Is Dead), a new video game scheduled to be released in 2013.
“There are so many choices for today’s musicians; online/offline, live/studio, audio/video, acoustic/electronic,” Meytal explains. “As modern drummers we need to cover them all and, at the same time, we need to continue to grow. So, in addition to the performances, drum covers and lessons I do on the Internet, I consciously try to put myself in other situations where I’ll be challenged to develop my skills. Rehearsing, recording and touring with Akira and this band is definitely going to be one of those opportunities.”
Let the games begin.
