After enjoying decades of global success, the legendary U.K. brand Premier Percussion endured an especially rough ride in the United States in recent years. In fact, after a succession of ownership changes, including a brief merger with Yamaha during the late ’80s, the company found itself undergoing debt restructuring and disappeared almost entirely from the U.S. market. But Premier is poised to once again appear in U.S. drum shops, now that the company has struck a deal with American distributor Universal Percussion. Word has it that the company will display its high-end Premier Series Elite and Classic kits, as well as mid-price Genista models at the 2011 Winter NAMM show in Southern California this coming January, which means you can expect to see Premier kits in U.S. drum shops by mid-year.
