Richie Hayward Benefits On Tap

Richie Hayward Benefits On Tap

By Phil Hood Published September 8, 2009

Richie Hayward, legendary drummer and founding member of Little Feat, now celebrating their 40th year, is having to take an indefinite amount of time off to treat liver disease. Faced with treatments, a possible transplant and no performing income in the coming year, his many friends, fans, and supporters are rallying to his aid with benefit concerts and fundraising campaigns.

Richie is now living in the Comox Valley, British Columbia, where his friends in the Band Pacific Disturbance have led the way in raising money for his medical care. They hosted a successful fund raising event on Sunday, August 23 in Courtenay, BC.

In addition, new concerts are being planned to raise money, including one in Los Angeles in October, sponsored by John Good at Drum Workshop. And, DRUM!'s editor Andy Doerschuk is spearheading plans for a San Francisco bay area benefit as well, featuring some big names. We'll have more news on those as it becomes available.

Another big event is planned for The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California, promoted by drumming industry veteran Leslie Butts. It takes place on Sunday October 4th. Details are here.
