Stars Turn Out For Boston Drummer’s Benefit Show
It’s good to have friends in high places. Just ask John Sands, a Boston-based drummer who suffered a heart attack on November 15 and, like many musicians, didn’t have adequate health insurance to cover the massive costs of his recovery. So a quartet of some of Sands’ most well-known bandleaders staged a benefit concert on January 21 to help defray some of his expenses. The show took place at Boston’s Paradise rock club and featured sets by Aimee Mann, Ron Sexsmith, Lori McKenna, and Jess Tardy. According to the Boston Globe, at the show Sexsmith called the drummer (who is affectionately known as “Huggy Bear”) “one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet.” We extend best wishes to Sands and his family.
