Today the Finnish heavy metal band Stratovarius announced that drummer Jörg Michael has been diagnosed with cancer after finding a lump on his neck. Doctors discovered a malignant thyroid neoplasm, and removed the entire gland. Michael will now have to undergo a regimen of radiotherapy. “He is a fighter,” the band wrote in a statement. “We have all talked to him and it's clear that this guy is not down for the count.”

With Michael’s blessing, the band plans to continue with its plan to begin the Seven Sinner tour this month with Helloween, and have enlisted former Axxis drummer Alex Landenburg to fill in until Michael is well enough to get back behind the kit.
