What do you get when scores of drummers congregate in 15 cities to play their kits at the same moment? Besides a glorious racket, you get The Big Beat, the annual rite of passage in which drummers strive to break simultaneous drumming records, which takes place this year on Sunday, November 7. Now part and parcel of the Five-Star drum shop coalition, organizers have sweetened the deal by having 20 of the top companies in the drum industry donate merchandise totalling more than $235,000 in retail value for the event.
Each participating store will give away more than $15,000 worth of drum gear to lucky participants in this exciting charity event that will benefit the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (and in some cities, the addition of a local charity as well). Plus, one lucky winner in one of the 15 cities will get a special Dream Theater “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” replica tour bass drumhead autographed especially for this occasion by drummer Mike Portnoy and the entire band (shown above in all its glory).
