The November Issue Of DRUM! Is Hot!

We just got preliminary copies of the November 2013 issue here at DRUM! World Headquarters, and are pretty jazzed about our latest collection of interviews, gear articles, lessons, and how-to features.

On the cover is mighty Mike Mangini, who shares tons of insight into his influences, techniques, work ethic, and overall awesomeness of his still-fresh gig with Dream Theater. In addition, we put together a 3-D drum set diagram of Mangini’s massive kit, get background info from DT keyboardist Jordan Rudess, and transcribe and analyze three drum parts from the band’s new CD.

Other artist features include Ryan Rabin of Grouplove, Janet Weiss of Drumgasm, Dennis Ryan of Deer Tick, and Matt Halpern of Periphery, who tells us what he’s been listening to these days.

We also toot our own horns with a big photo spread of the 2013 DRUM! Night drumming festival featuring action shots of Chad Smith, Cindy Blackman-Santana, Jason Bittner, and Street Drum Corps tearing it up in front of the sold-out crowd. Were you there? Should have been!

Like gear? The new Yamaha Custom Oak drum set and TRX’s new CRX cymbal line are both run through the gauntlet by our product specialists, while we report on brand new releases from DW, Grover Pro Percussion, Sabian, Protection Racket, Tycoon, and LP. Closing out the issue is the back-page tale of a one-of-a-kind Tama snare drum Scott Rockenfield played on Queensryche’s 1995 Promised Land tour.

And if you feel like honing your chops, you can expect new lessons from Chad Smith, Danny Gottlieb, and Matt Byrne, as well as a full transcription of John Boecklin’s smoking drum part from DevilDriver’s new song “Winter Kills.”

Yep, there’s more. November’s Hand Drum section takes you inside this year’s KoSA drumming camp, while on the other side of the technological coin we review the latest in synth software in our Plugged In department.
