NJ, October, 2011: Joe Morello, most widely known for his drumming with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, passed away on March 12, 2011. He was 82 years old. Joe was a true legend drumming legend widely recognized as one of the greatest jazz drummers in history. During his long career he won every major drumming poll. His incredible drum technique continues to amaze drummers to this day. Although Joe is no longer with us, his techniques will live on in the students he has taught over the years.
On Saturday, October 22nd, 2011 drummers of all styles will have the unique opportunity to learn about Joe Morello's incredible techniques directly from his top students, which include Tiger Bill Meligari, John Riley, Steve Fidyk, and others. The live event is being held at the New Jersey School of Percussion 14 Northfield Ave in West Orange, New Jersey from 1 to 6 pm. It will consist of drum clinics and performances as well as hands-on master classes that will help you understand the mechanics behind Joe's natural approach to drumming, which allowed him to play with such incredible speed, precision, endurance, and control.
