Ultimate Drum Play-Along: Pink Floyd

Reviews Of The Week: Pink Floyd and More

By Ivar Slovak Published September 24, 2009

Pink Floyd remains one of the most popular classic rock groups of all time and their biggest album, Dark Side Of The Moon was a best-seller for two decades. It actually stayed in the Billboard Top 200 sales charts for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. Obviously, the work of Roger Waters, guitarist David Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason, has timeless appeal.

This play-along set features a book and two CDs with songs from many of Floyd's albums. The song list includes "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)," "Comfortably Numb," "The Fletcher Memorial Home," "Have a Cigar," "Money," "See Emily Play," "Time," "Wish You Were Here," "Young Lust." "Money" was Floyd's biggest hit, partly due to the irresistable 7/4 cash register groove that opens the song. It provides a good odd time signature groove workout.

You'll discover there are two versions of the songs on the CD. Each track includes a full performace version with a recording of the tune. Then there is a separate accompaniment track for you to play along. Plop the CD in your computer and a tone and tempo changer lets change the key, slow down or speed up tracks or create loops for practice. You can easily switch back and forth between the full-performance and play-along tracks.

The Ultimate Drum Play-Along is available for $19.95 at music stores and direct from Alfred.com.
