Seven lucky musicians, chosen for their individual skill on their instruments, will have the opportunity to perform at the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) worldwide convention in Anaheim, California next January. The sponsors include Latin Percussion, Toca Percussion, SABIAN, Genz Benz, Ovation, Gretsch Drums, Audio-technica, Hercules, Schecter, Gibraltar, Musician’s Friend and Harmony-Central.com. They have joined forces to sponsor coverband2010.com, an online talent contest, which will provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aspiring musicians to “hit the big stage” at the 2010 NAMM Show's 85,000 guests.
Individuals, not bands, will compete for a minimum of seven performance spots: drummer, bass player, vocalist, two guitar players and two percussionists. Musicians will upload a video to http://www.coverband2010.com between July 15 and September 15 for voting by the public, which will occur between September 16 and October 15. The top five finalists in each instrument category would then be judged by a celebrity panel.The winners will receive over $40,000 worth of prizes [Not Bad!] including an all expenses paid trip to the 2010 NAMM Show, gear from the sponsoring brands, and the opportunity to perform before a live audience at the show. Karl Perazzo, percussionist with Santana, is confirmed as the music director for the band. The winners are also guaranteed an appearance on a Musician’s Friend catalog cover in 2010.
A fully integrated online advertising and PR campaign to launch the contest will include promotion on all sponsoring brand web sites, direct e-blasts, social network sites and video commercials.
