Zildjian turned heads at the January 2011 NAMM Show with the impressive debut of a whole new line of digital cymbal products. And today the company has announced the launch of gen-16.com, the online presence of the company’s new acoustic/electronic cymbal system and related accessories and add-ons. Visitors to the site can learn about all things Gen 16, from product information, news and support, to artist and educational videos. Gen16 products can be purchased online.
But this promises to be just the beginning. Zildjian also announced the imminent release of two related virtual products, the Groove Player app for iPhone and iPad (which can store thousands of beats and percussion patterns), and the Gen16Grooves.com website, where users can purchase thousands of beats by many of the world’s greatest drummers and percussionists, including Kenny Aronoff, Alex Acuna, Marco Minnemann, Wolf, Eddie Bayers, Danny Seraphine, Billy Martin, and a host of other world-class players.
One of the oldest companies in the percussion market, which had previously specialized in making instruments derived from Bronze Age technology, making a major commitment to forward-thinking digital applications – no, the irony wasn’t lost on us either.
