Evans Announces Exclusive Partnership With SJC Custom Drums
D’Addario is thrilled to announce that SJC Custom Drums will now exclusively use Evans Drumheads on all their custom-made drum kits shipping from their factory.
“We've been growing rapidly over the last few years and needed a drum head company who would not only assist us while we grew with quick turnarounds, but also with a superior product and artist relations, which is so important to us at SJC Drums,” Mike Ciprari explains, Co-Founder of SJC Custom Drums. “Evans is a great partner that will not only help us grow but also share our vision of the future of the music industry.” As part of those future goals, SJC will now officially use Evans drumheads exclusively on all of their coveted custom kits, namely Evans’ best-selling EMAD and G2 models, along with their newly launched Calftone drumheads.
“SJC is clearly one of the leaders in custom drums,” Sergio Bonsignore says, Percussion Product Specialist for Evans at D’Addario. “Positioned as a first-class brand, they are consistently innovating and in highdemand with drummers all over the world. They require a premium drumhead that allows their drums to reach their fullest potential straight out of the box. With their business steadily growing, a partner that can help them turn around custom projects quickly is an absolute necessity, and we are proud to support them and drummers alike.”
PMC Wraps Up Free Drum Lessons at Vans Warped Tour ConcertsJohn Messerschmidt from Yamaha helps Town Center Music in Suwanee, Georgia, teach a basic drum lesson during the Vans Warped Tour stop in Atlanta.
The Percussion Marketing Council (PMC) and local music retailers once again provided free first-time 5-minute drum lessons at Lesson Lab Tents in conjunction with the popular 2016 Vans Warped Tour. This summer tents were set up in: Atlanta, GA (June 30); St. Petersburg, FL (July 1); West Palm Beach, FL (July 3); Wantagh, NY (July 9); Mansfield, MA (July 13); Auburn Hills, MI (July 22), and Milwaukee, WI (July26).Sergio Bellotti from 247 Drums in Winchester, Massachusetts, teaches basic drum lessons during the Vans Warped Tour stop in Mansfield.
This marks the 7th year that PMC has worked with the Vans Warped Tour to provide the self-contained educational Play Drums tents. Together with local retailers, they put drumsticks in the hands of about 100 firsttime drummers during each stop. Tents were equipped with an acoustic and/or electronic drum set, including cymbals and sticks, to provide a positive and professional learning experience for beginning players. Many drummers from the Warped Tour stopped by the tents to help generate excitement for the project.
It is estimated that more than 600 beginner drummers took part in the free 5-minute lessons. Percussion retailers, along with a PMC representative, operated the tent and provided the instructors. “These retailers are key to this program,” says Billy Cuthrell, a PMC Advisory Board Member who coordinates the Lesson Lab Tent. “Working together, we drew enthusiastic learners to the Lesson Lab tent in each city.”Teri Cote from 247 Drums in Winchester, Massachusetts, teaches a basic drum lesson during the Vans Warped Tour stop in Mansfield.
Some percussion retailers from previous years returned to participate again, even more excited and committed to the project. This year’s retailers included: 247 Drums (Winchester, MA), Cascio Music SuperStore (Milwaukee, WI), Drummers Only Drumshop (Port Saint Lucie, FL); JC’s Drum & Music Academy (Rochester, MI), Long Island Drum Center (Hicksville, NY), and Town Center Music (Atlanta, GA).
“We enjoyed participating in the event this year and would definitely be interested in participating in the future,” states first-time retail participant Rachel from Cascio Music SuperStore. “Through all the lessons we gave that day, we were able to connect with 52 brand new customers. This is a great return for our investment of time and personnel. Thanks to the PMC for helping to connect the dots.”
Members of the PMC include every significant manufacturer, distributor, publisher, and percussion-education organization in the United States. PMC member companies donated equipment for drawings held at each PMC Lab Tent location.
Dave Lombardo Plays With Misfits For Reunion Shows
After months of speculation, the ORIGINAL MISFITS announce that drummer Dave Lombardo will join them for their two Riot Fest dates (Denver, September 4th and Chicago, September 18th). The original drummer for Slayer, Lombardo will be providing his propulsive beat behind Original MISFITS members Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only, with longtime guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein. Danzig and Only will be playing together on stage for the first time since 1983.
Lombardo says of joining the band for the dates, "The Misfits created the horror punk attitude and had a massive influence on modern rock, punk and metal. It was an easy decision for me to join them for these monumental shows. I was honored to be asked, and am very excited to be playing with the band. Judging by the rehearsals alone, Misfits fans will not be disappointed- this is everything they could have hoped for and more."
Glenn Danzig says, "I first met Dave back in '88 when DANZIG did four shows with Slayer in the U.S., before the first DANZIG album was released. Dave is one of the best drummers around, and I can't wait for everyone to see him pounding MISFITS songs live for these special shows."
Jerry Only says, "Dave Lombardo is a master at what he does. With the immensity of the two shows we're planning together, the biggest decision we had was who is going to keep time and power this monster machine on drums? When Dave Lombardo's name was thrown into the ring, Glenn and I were immediately on the same page from the very start, a good sign of things to come. I think the darker side of punk we created with the MISFITS spawned the growth and evolution of punk into thrash, and sired bands like Metallica and Slayer, just as we inspired countless others in the punk revolution."
