Remo Belli Passes Away
A statement from Remo, Inc:
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Remo D Belli, our beloved founder and leader. An innovator, pioneer and icon of the world of percussion, he was an inspiration to us all for breaking new ground and making a difference in the world.
Remo was a visionary. In 1957, he invented the first successful synthetic drumhead which forever changed the sound of music of all genres. He committed himself and his company to providing drummers, the world over, with quality products and programs while striving to expand the acceptance of rhythm and in particular drumming as an integral component of an individual’s wellbeing. Through his ongoing efforts, the professional, the enthusiast, children, the elderly, those at risk and those faced with both emotional and physical challenges have been brought the joy of drumming. We mourn his passing and he will be missed by people in all walks of life. His spirit lives on and we will continue to pursue his vision of making drumming available to everyone alive. We will miss you. Rest in peace, Remo.

Sabian Education Network Hosts LA Event at Musician's Institute
The Sabian Education Network hosted a panel discussion event for drum teachers at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. Led by Sabian Education Network director Joe Bergamini, the panel featured Dave Black, Jeff Bowders, Fred Dinkins, and Pete Gamber and was attended by drum teachers and SEN members from all over Southern California.
After Joe Bergamini’s brief overview, Pete Gamber explained ways to build a teaching business. Jeff Bowders discussed ways to prepare students for the college experience, followed by Fred Dinkins explaining the college audition process and ways to prepare for it. Finally, Dave Black discussed the drum book publishing process and how to approach a publisher with a manuscript. The presentation was followed by questions and discussion with the audience.
Members in attendance were inspired by the event and networked with each other and the MI staff after the panel discussion. “I had a great time at the Sabian Education Network Event,” said drummer/educator Stefano Ashbridge “I learned a lot from the panel guests and it was cool to meet and talk to fellow drummers and teachers. Thanks Joe.”
The next Sabian Education Network event takes place at Vic’s Drum Shop in the Music Garage in Chicago, IL on May 3. SEN is open to all drum educators—from the private home studio teacher with a handful of students to a music school or educational institution—and provides a welcoming and inclusive forum for drum educators worldwide to exchange ideas and share skills.
