Pipe Band Champion Temporarily Banned From Competition
A word to the wise: Be careful what you post online. Take it from 16-time world solo pipe band drumming champion Jim Kilpatrick.
After posting a message on facebook about the results his band, The House of Edgar Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band, received at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow in June, the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association banned Kilpatrick from competitions for three months.
You have to admit, though, it would take some creative interpretation to pinpoint exactly whom Kilpatrick was referring to when he wrote, “one of the most predicable shaftings on the calendar.” Nonetheless, the RSPBA ruled it to be a criticism of the judges, which prompted Kilpatrick to respond on his website, “There was no way that these comments were meant to hurt any individual or any association or any other member of the other bands competing.”
