Senator Chuck Schumer Re-Visits D'addario Headquarters For Reelection Commerical
D’Addario is honored to have been selected as a featured New York company for one of a handful of commercials running as a series for Senator Chuck Schumer’s reelection this year.
The 30-second ad on behalf of Senator Schumer’s (D-NY) re-election campaign focuses on his successful efforts to support D’Addario & Company, Inc. from Chinese counterfeiters who were undercutting the company by manufacturing and selling phony D’Addario strings online.
At Schumer’s urging, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative launched a coordinated effort to crack down on manufacturers and distributors of these counterfeit products – helping to save 800 well-paying D’Addario jobs on Long Island and the largest manufacturer of musical instrument accessories in the world.
The ad, which was shot at D’Addario’s headquarters in Farmingdale, features Senator Schumer and CEO Jim D’Addario highlighting this achievement. It will be one of a series of commercials running in October in the downstate New York region (NYC and Long Island) for about two weeks, with tentative plans to air statewide.
Roadie For A Day Builds Community
CLEVELAND, OH — On September 30, the Percussion Marketing Council (PMC) 2016 International Drum Month (IDM) promotion culminated when 11-year-old Henry Saad met real-life drum hero Rich Redmond prior to a Jason Aldean concert in Raleigh, North Carolina. Henry’s father, Michael, entered the IDM “Drum Roadie for a Day” and all-access backstage experience contest online on behalf of his son. The contest connects to participating percussion retailers across the country during PMC’s month-long May campaign. Michael’s entry was selected from more than 378 entries, making this year’s IDM contest the most successful ever.
Using banner ads, social media, and Google AdWords, PMC targets young, diverse audiences interested in drumming and draws them to PMC’s PlayDrums.com website where they can enter the contest. From there, the drummers are directed to participating music stores and drum shops close to where they live. Located all across the country, those retailers were provided life-size Rich Redmond standups to attract awareness for the promotion.
Henry’s day began with a CRASH Course for Success program at Raleigh-based PMC Member Billy Cuthrell’s Progressive Music Center. Before the event, Rich Redmond, drummer for Jason Aldean, gave Henry a 30-minute private drum lesson. “It really helped kick the day off for a packed schedule. Later, at the concert, Henry got to see the inner workings of a major tour, including an inside look at how a professional drummer works on a daily basis and what it takes to reach and stay at that level,” says Cuthrell. (Watch a video of Henry rocking out with Redmond at: https://youtu.be/oX-7m8lfZqw.) According to Michael Saad, Henry described the experience as “the best day of my life.” “At every turn, Rich welcomed our son into his daily routine and shared his acquired wisdom to help guide Henry in his pursuit of a career in drums. Henry's passion for drumming is apparent to anyone who knows him. This experience and these memories will last a lifetime. We're so grateful to the PMC, Rich Redmond, and all of the fantastic sponsors that made this day possible.”
The 2016 International Drum Month “Roadie for a Day” contest created excitement for drums and drumming among current and potential drummers across the US. Through the promotion, these drummers were introduced to area online retailers, as well as music stores and drum shops across the US to help drive traffic in the MI industry. “PMC’s mission is to instill excitement about playing drums and to put sticks in kids’ hands,” notes Karl Dustman Executive Director for the PMC. “This promotion is one of our best vehicles to help build the drumming community."

JIMMY CHAMBERLIN As the propulsive engine driving the Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Chamberlin earned respect as one of the most popular, influential drummers of the '90s. His extraordinarily quick hands, furious snare rolls, and crackling rimshots recalled the likes of Ian Paice and Dennis Chambers, and yet equally important to the band was his tasteful, understated playing on their quieter numbers. Presented by Zildjian, Sakae, Vic Firth and Remo. http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Jimmy_Chamberlin.html
MATT GARSTKA Matt Garstka is regarded as one of the key progressive drummers of his generation. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2011 and moved to Los Angeles shortly thereafter to further his musical pursuits. Soon after moving to LA he joined the instrumental band Animals as Leaders and has been touring with them internationally. Presented by Tama, Meinl, Vic Firth and Remo. https://mattgarstka.com/

Sensory Percussion Launches
After raising more than $94k in a successful Kickstarter campaign last August, Sunhouse has begun shipping Sensory Percussion to campaign backers and new customers around the world. Sensory Percussion is available now to purchase on the Sunhouse website.
“In the age of electronically produced music, drumming is often reduced to simple, static sounds,” said Sunhouse co-founder Tlacael Esparza. “Sunhouse reinvigorates acoustic artforms by translating all the human nuances of a live performance to electronic sound through our powerful software and specialized sensors. It bridges the artforms of acoustic drumming and music production, empowering drummers to combine the sonic possibilities of electronic sound with the unmatched potential of acoustic performance.“
With Sensory Percussion, drummers can now control electronic sounds in real time with their drumsticks, rather than twiddle knobs and push buttons. The specialized sensors are the most visible part of the technology, but the software is the real star of Sensory Percussion. Developed by drummers for drummers over an intensive two years of R&D, Sensory Percussion’s creators harnessed their knowledge of music, stage performance, music information retrieval, audio software engineering, mechanical engineering, and machine learning to develop the easy-to-use, intuitively controlled software.
Unlike existing electronic drum trigger systems which turn your drum into static sounds, Sensory Percussion’s sensors allow its powerful software to understand where and how drummers hit their drum, following their playing in real time. It sonically maps different parts of the drum so drummers can intuitively control anything from samples and synthesizers to digital audio effects, and even lighting. It also allows the musician to play "between" sounds and to control continuous effects based on where and how the drum is hit, allowing creative possibilities that are orders of magnitude beyond any competing product.
"Sensory Percussion is the freshest, most creative technology to hit electronic drumming in the last decade. With one drum I can now do what I can do with an entire kit." Grammy-winning producer and drummer for Dr. Dre, Herbie Hancock, and Stevie Wonder Sensory Percussion is available now to buy on the Sunhouse website (http://sunhou.se) and ships globally:
- Starter kit (software and 1 sensor): $700
- Duo (software and 2 sensors): $1,025
- Trio (software and 3 sensors: $1,315
- Complete Kit (software and 4 sensors): $1,575
