Roland to Host 24-Hour Online Music Festival “The Future. Redefined.”
Roland announces the first-of-its kind, 24-hour online music festival, “The Future. Redefined.” More than 30 new Roland musical instrument products are scheduled to debut during streaming video broadcasts from VIP events in eight major cities around the world on September 9 (#909day). Roland will introduce new synthesizers, digital pianos, electronic drums, DJ equipment, BOSS guitar-related products, accessories and a new genre of musical instrument never offered before by Roland.
Roland’s exclusive music and musical instruments festival will span six times zones and feature live performances, new product debuts, product demonstrations, and interviews with leading artists. Starting at 4:00 UTC on September 9, Roland will unleash new musical instruments in Tokyo, Berlin, Brussels, Paris, Toronto, NYC, Los Angeles and more.

Victor Filonovich Appointed To Zildjian
The Avedis Zildjian Company has announced that Victor Filonovich has been appointed Category Manager for cymbals. Filonovich joins Zildjian from Latin Percussion and brings over 25+ years of experience working with artists, dealers, distributors and consumers on developing compelling drum/percussion products and successful sales programs.
Filonovich was recently the Global Director of Product Management for both Latin Percussion and Toca Percussion. He worked at LP for 24 years, managing and leading the development and implementation of numerous new products including 5 U.S. Patents. Prior to LP, Filonovich worked for Pearl Drums.
In his new role, Filonovich will have sizable responsibilities, managing the iconic brand's historic line of drum set, marching and orchestral cymbals.
Filonovich is an avid drummer, speaks fluent Russian and has relocated to Zildjian's headquarters in Norwell, Massachusetts from New Jersey.
2015 Baltic Drum Battle Winner Visits Paiste Factory in Nottwil
Marat Sayfutdinov from St. Petersburg, Russia not only won the 2015 Baltic Drum Battle but also a two days trip to Switzerland including a Factory Tour at Paiste & testing his skills at hand hammering.
Paiste said "It was a real pleasure to spend some quality time with Marat and show him, how much hand work & precision goes into each and every Paiste cymbal made in Nottwil."

Guitarist Neal Schon has nothing but justifiable praise for his returned-drummer Steve Smith, during a radio interview in Detroit. Smith, who is currently on the August 2016 DRUM! cover, and the band are touring with the Doobies and Dave Mason.

Last but not least Vintage Vinyl reports that Danny Smythe (top left of photo), founder and original drummer of the Boxtops passed away at the age of 67. The group was well-known for soul covers and their two-minute pièce de résistance "The Letter," which was nominated for two Grammys in 1967. Smythe left the group in '68 and became an illustrator. He played with the reformed band after 1996. The group's lead singer, Alex Chilton, went on to lead the group Big Star and become the original indie alternative music hero.

Jed’s A Millionaire (JAM), with Drum! Magazine contributing writer Andy Ziker on drums, has released their latest single, “When You’re Down.” JAM got its start in the early 2000s in Phoenix, Arizona, and has opened for the likes of REO Speedwagon, Alice Cooper, Roger Clyne And The Peacemakers, and Missing Persons. Since relocating to Los Angeles in 2014, JAM has played at several LA clubs, including the The Viper Room, The Mint, and Whisky A Go Go.
