DRUM! Magazine Negotiates New Specialty Retail Distribution
July And August Circulation Expanded With Free Digital Magazines
(San Jose, Calf.) – Enter Music Publishing today announced negotiations with American International Distribution Corporation (AIDC) for distribution of DRUM! Magazine into specialty musical instrument retailers in the U.S. This follows the sudden closure of Retail Vision, a subsidiary of magazine publisher and distributor Source Interlink, and DRUM!’s former specialty distributor.
When Source Interlink Distribution abruptly shut its doors on May 30, following the loss of primary client Time magazine, DRUM! lost some retail copies that were — and still are — in the Source Interlink warehouses. Six thousand people were laid off and magazines across the spectrum were impacted. As a result, the July and August 2014 issues of DRUM! weren’t distributed into musical instrument outlets.
“The bankruptcy of a distributor, with the attendant loss of receivables, is always challenging, especially since we were in the middle of a retail push,” said Phil Hood, publisher of DRUM!. “However, we look forward to working with AIDC.”
Source Interlink’s bankruptcy has no effect on DRUM!’s national and international distribution channels, which service copies into bookstores, newsstands, grocery chains, and other types of retailers, and represent the majority of copies on sale each month.
Bigger Circulation For July
To make up for any lost circulation, Enter Music Publishing will make digital replica editions of the July and August issues available in their entirety online. These will be accessible to all visitors free of charge during the issues’ on-sale periods. “This is part of a major sampling push to build the digital subscription base,” says Hood. “It should help readers and advertisers.” DRUM!’s July issue is also distributed at Summer NAMM.
Steal This Issue!
The July/August digital sampling campaign will be supported by Facebook ads, Twitter messaging, and a broad effort via the Enter Music Network, the world’s only drumming advertising network (http://www.entermusicnetwork.com) Advertisers are encouraged to invite their email list and social media followers to enjoy free access to both issues by linking them to drummagazine.com during this interim period.
With 240,000+ visitors a month, drummagazine.com has become the top drumming web site in North America, which assures the July and August issues will attract more readers than ever. An added perk for advertisers — all advertisements in both digital editions will be linked to the respective company websites, providing a direct response from drummers around the world.
